Visitor Center Clerk & Light Show Attendant
Meadowlark Botanical Gardens
I first joined Meadowlark Botanical Gardens as a Visitor Center Clerk in my senior year of high school. It was my introduction to a customer-facing role, and I quickly learned how much I enjoyed welcoming guests, answering questions, and helping people feel prepared to explore the gardens. I handled admissions, phone inquiries, and general visitor support, and I loved being part of a space that so many people came to for relaxation, photography, and family time.
I continued returning to Meadowlark during winter breaks as a Light Show Attendant for the annual Winter Walk of Lights. The event brings thousands of visitors to the park every season, and the work required calm communication, clear instructions, and a strong sense of hospitality. I helped manage guest flow, provided event information, and ensured visitors had a smooth, enjoyable experience. The fast pace and the festive atmosphere made it a role I looked forward to each year.
Working at Meadowlark taught me the foundations of customer service: patience, clarity, and treating every interaction like an opportunity to make someone’s visit better. It was the job that sparked my early interest in hospitality and shaped the way I approach guest experience today.
